Who Are We?
The Challenger Division of Little League was established in 1989 to enable boys and girls with physical and mental disabilities a way to enjoy the game of baseball.
Virginia District 7 LL is honored to have the responsibility of overseeing the largest non-competitive recreational baseball program for mentally & physically challenged youth on the Virginia Peninsula
.

How Does it Work?
Teams are set up according to abilities, rather than age.

Tee-Ball, Coach-Pitch or Player Pitch can be used to allow players of different abilities participate together as a team.
Each player will be given the opportunity to travel around all of the bases after the ball is hit.
Score is not kept and players are not called "Out".
Each player gets a chance at bat and will continue until they successfully hit the ball.
The side is retired when the offense has batted through the roster.

What is the schedule and game locations?
Games are played during a Spring and Fall Season
Spring Season runs for 8 weeks April to June, and Fall Season runs 8 weeks September to October.
Games are always on Wednesdays 5:30-7:30pm and Saturdays 10:00-12:00pm during both seasons (No practices).
The majority of the games are played at Dot Rich and Monfalcone baseball fields located within Deer Park in Newport News.

What if we can't make it to every game?
Teammates will tell you they missed seeing you at the last game.
We know that life happens and sometimes baseball can not be top priority.
Some players can only participate once a week, need to leave early, or show up late.

What are Buddy Games?
"Buddies" are typical players from surrounding Little League's, School Teams & Cheerleaders, Youth Corp Volunteers, Local Universities Sororities and other Organizations.
Participating players are paired with a buddy to assist the player as needed on the field and in the dugout.

Buddy Games foster friendships and helps to breaks down barriers of special needs players.
Not only do the players experience the thrill of participating in a buddy baseball game, they also experience team play and camaraderie.

What Equipment is Needed?
None, Nothing, Nada!
Sponsors and donations allow us to provide shared team equipment.
Some players choose to have and use their own equipment.
Equipment must follow Little League Regulations.
Each player will receive a team jersey and hat.
